Kept Capture
Do I need the Mac app?
No. You can save text, photos and voice recordings in your Captures library without Kept Studio. Delivery to your Mac is optional and requires a one-time purchase. Transcription and AI-assisted filing take place on the Mac, not on your iPhone.
Where are my saved captures?
Open Captures to revisit saved items, edit saved text, play recordings or share an item. If you archived a capture, check Archived; you can restore it to Active. Archiving is not deletion.
Why can’t I record?
Check that Kept Capture has microphone permission in your iPhone’s Settings. If recording still fails, note the error shown and contact us. You can still use text and photo capture without microphone access.
Kept Studio
Getting started with a vault
Your vault is the folder where Kept works with your files. Choose the folder you want to use and grant access when prompted. You can review your vault selection in Settings → Files & privacy.
If files appear to be missing, check that you have selected the intended vault and that the folder is still available on your Mac. Don’t delete or move your vault as a troubleshooting step.
Setting up AI
AI chat and AI-assisted filing use a provider you configure. In the app’s settings, configure your provider connection and model assignments. Kept does not include a hosted AI service; the provider’s own terms and charges may apply.
If a request fails, check the displayed error, your internet connection, provider credentials and access to the selected model. Never send your API key to support.
Voice and transcription
Voice transcription uses Whisper locally on your Mac. If recording is unavailable, check Kept’s microphone permission in macOS System Settings. If a recording exists but transcription fails, send us the error text rather than the recording itself.
Optional phone-to-Mac delivery
Delivery requires a one-time purchase and uses your personal iCloud storage. Your iPhone and Mac need to use the same Apple Account, with iCloud Drive available on both devices.
A capture hasn’t arrived on my Mac
- Confirm that Mac delivery is unlocked. If you already bought it, use Restore Purchases.
- Check that you sent the saved capture or enabled automatic delivery for new captures. Saving in the phone library does not always mean sending.
- Check that both devices have internet access and iCloud Drive is available.
- Open Kept Studio with your intended vault selected, then check the capture’s delivery status on your phone.
Enabling automatic delivery does not send your entire existing library. Turning it off applies to future saves; it does not cancel already queued captures. Delivery to the Mac and subsequent AI processing are separate steps.
Does deleting a phone capture delete it on my Mac?
No. Deleting a saved capture on your phone does not delete a copy already delivered to your Mac or cancel its queued delivery copy. Manage Mac files separately. If you need help with a pending delivery, contact us before deleting application or iCloud files.
Contact support
To help us understand the issue, include:
- Which app you’re using: Kept Capture or Kept Studio.
- Your app version and iOS or macOS version, if available.
- What you were trying to do, what happened, and any error message.
- A screenshot if useful, with private content hidden.
Please do not send passwords, API keys, recordings, your full vault or other private material. A description of the problem is enough to start.
